Armenian Alphabet

Today I will teach you the Armenian alphabet. If you follow everything provided in this page, you will be able to read, write and pronounce the Armenian letters quickly and easily. I'm providing the sound so that you can hear the pronunciation of the characters. Armenian contains 26 letters (consonants and vowels). Below you will find the letters, the pronunciation and sound.

If you see two pronunciations for the same letter. That means the first is used in the east and the second pronunciation is used in the west of Armenia.

Ա ա	[ɑ] like ask
Բ բ	[b,pʰ] like by, phone
Գ գ	[ɡ,kʰ] like go, ok
Դ դ	[d,tʰ] like do, thin
Ե ե	[(j)ɛ] like yes
Զ զ	[z] like zoo
Է է	[ɛ] like egg
Ը ը	[ə] like put
Թ թ	[tʰ] like time
Ժ ժ	[ʒ] like vision
Ի ի	[i] like innk
Լ լ	[l] like love
Խ խ	[χ] like Bach
Ծ ծ	[ts,dz] like cats
Կ կ	[k,ɡ] like ok, go
Հ հ	[h] like hi
Ձ ձ	[dz,tsʰ] like kids
Ղ ղ	[ʁ] like merci
Ճ ճ	[tʃ,dʒ] like urge
Մ մ	[m] like mom
Յ յ	[j] like you
Ն ն	[n] like nice
Շ շ	[ʃ] like shiny
Ո ո	[(v)o] like vast, pot
Չ չ	[tʃʰ] like porch
Պ պ	[p,b] like pen, by
Ջ ջ	[dʒ,tʃʰ] like job
Ռ ռ	[r,ɾ] like Roma
Ս ս	[s] like sand
Վ վ	[v] like vast
