Esperanto Verbs

Welcome to the 10th lesson about verbs in Esperanto. We will first learn about the present tense, followed by the past tense, and future tense. We will also analyze some grammar rules, and finally practice how to ask for direction in Esperanto.

Verbs are used to express an action (I swim) or a state of being (I am). The present tense in Esperanto conveys a situation or event in the present time. Here are some examples:

Present Tense - Esperanto
I speak English mi parolas la anglan Audio
you speak French vi parolas la francan Audio
he speaks German li parolas la germanan Audio
she speaks Italian ŝi parolas la italan Audio
we speak Arabic ni parolas la araban Audio
they speak Chinese ili parolas la ĉinan Audio

The past tense in Esperanto conveys a situation or event in the past time. Here are some examples:

Past Tense - Esperanto
I visited France mi vizitis francio Audio
you visited Italy vi vizitis italio Audio
he visited Morocco li vizitis maroko Audio
she visited China ŝi vizitis ĉinio Audio
we visited Mexico ni vizitis meksiko Audio
they visited Kenya ili vizitis kenjo Audio

The future tense in Esperanto conveys a situation or event which is anticipated to happen in the future. Here are some examples:

Future Tense - Esperanto
I will drink milk mi trinkos lakton Audio
you will drink coffee vi trinkos kafon Audio
he will drink tea li trinkos teon Audio
she will drink water ŝi trinkos akvon Audio
we will drink apple juice ni trinkos pomsukon Audio
they will drink tea ili trinkos teon Audio
