black ਕਾਲਾ [kālā]

grey ਸਲੇਟੀ [salēṭī]

white ਚੱਿਟਾ [caiṭā]

blue ਨੀਲਾ [nīlā]

green ਹਰਾ [harā]

yellow ਪੀਲਾ [pīlā]

red ਲਾਲ [lāla]

brown ਭੂਰਾ [bhūrā]

Adjectives Grammar Rules

In general adjectives are words which describe or modify another person or object in a given sentence. For example: a beautiful flower the adjective is [beautiful] because it describes the noun [flower]. The following examples use adjectives in different ways and places to demonstrate how they behave in a sentence.

Grammar Rules - Punjabi + Pronunciation
my house is white [noun + adjective] ਮੇਰਾ ਘਰ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਹੈ [mērā ghara ciṭā hai]
your country is big [noun + adjective] ਮੇਰਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ [mērā dēśa vaḍā hai]
new books are expensive [plural + adjective] ਨਵੀਆਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਮਹਿੰਗੀਆਂ ਹਨ [navī'āṁ kitābāṁ mahigī'āṁ hana]
we are happy here [pronoun + verb + adjective] ਅਸੀਂ ਏਥੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹਾਂ [asīṁ ēthē khuśa hāṁ]
she has three small dogs [adjective + plural] ਓਸ ਕੁੜੀ ਕੋਲ ਤਿੰਨ ਛੋਟੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਹਨ [ōsa kuṛī kōla tina chōṭē kutē hana]
this language is very easy [adverb + adjective] ਇਹ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੌਖੀ ਹੈ [iha bhāśā bahuta saukhī hai]
I have a small green house [adjective + adjective] ਮੇਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਛੋਟਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਹਰਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ [mērā ika chōṭā jihā harā ghara hai]

We're not done yet! The following is a list of more adjectives for you, often used when referring to weather conditions. I think it would be wise to memorize them.

cold ਠੰਢ [ṭhaḍha]

hot ਗਰਮ [garama]

cloudy ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ [badalāṁ vālā]

rainy ਮੀਂਹ ਵਾਲਾ [mīnha vālā]

snowy ਬਰਫ਼ੀਲਾ [barafīlā]

sunny ਧੂੱਪਦਾਰ [dhūpadāra]

windy ਹਵਾਦਾਰ [havādāra]

warm ਗਰਮ [garama]

Conversation in Punjabi

Now we finally reach the most exciting part, the practice of the daily expressions used in almost every conversation. I recommend memorizing these phrases, because you will need them for sure.

how are you? ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਕੀ ਹਾਲ ਐ? [tuhāḍā kī hāla ai?]
I'm good, thank you ਮੈਂ ਠੀਕ ਆਂ, ਧੰਨਵਾਦ [maiṁ ṭhīka āṁ, dhanavāda]
and you? ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ? [atē tusīṁ?]
what is your name? ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਹੈ? [tuhāḍā nāma kī hai?]
