Uzbek Verbs

Welcome to the 10th lesson about verbs in Uzbek. We will first learn about the present tense, followed by the past tense, and future tense. We will also analyze some grammar rules, and finally practice how to ask for direction in Uzbek.

Verbs are used to express an action (I swim) or a state of being (I am). The present tense in Uzbek conveys a situation or event in the present time. Here are some examples:

Present Tense - Uzbek
I speak English men inglizcha gapiraman
you speak French sen fransuzcha gapirasan
he speaks German u nemischa gapiradi
she speaks Italian u italyancha gapiradi
we speak Arabic biz arabcha gapiramiz
they speak Chinese ular hitoycha gapiradilar

The past tense in Uzbek conveys a situation or event in the past time. Here are some examples:

Past Tense - Uzbek
I visited France men franciyaga sayoxat qilganman
you visited Italy sen italyaga sayoxat qilgansan
he visited Morocco u morokkaga sayoxat qilgan
she visited China u hitoyga sayoxat qilgan
we visited Mexico biz meksikoga sayoxat qilganmiz
they visited Kenya ular kenyaga sayoxat qilganlar

The future tense in Uzbek conveys a situation or event which is anticipated to happen in the future. Here are some examples:

Future Tense - Uzbek
I will drink milk men sut ichaman
you will drink coffee sen kofe ichasan
he will drink tea u choy ichadi
she will drink water u suv ichadi
we will drink apple juice bizlar olma sharbatidan ichamiz
they will drink tea ular choy ichadilar

Where is the airport? aeroport qaerda joylashgan?
Go straight to'g'riga yuring
Then so'ngra
Turn left chapga buring
Turn right o'ngga buring
