Kannada Nouns

Nouns Grammar Rules

In general nouns refer to a person, an object, or abstract ideas. For example: a fast runner the noun is [runner] because it refers to a person. The examples below use nouns in different ways and places to demonstrate how they behave in a sentence.

[verb + noun] ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಹಾಲು ಇದೆಯಾ Audio [Nim'ma hattira hālu ideyā]

[preposition + noun] ನನ್ನ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಹಾಲು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಫಿ ಇದೆ Audio [Nanna hattira hālu mattu kāphi ide]
he has three apples
[number + plural noun] ಅವನ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಮೂರು ಸೇಬು ಇವೆ Audio [Avana hattira mūru sēbu ive]
she only has one apple
[number + singular noun] ಅವಳ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಕೇವಲ ಒಂದು ಸೇಬು ಇದೆ Audio [Avaḷa hattira kēvala ondu sēbu ide]
we live in a small house
[adjective + noun] ನಾವು ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ಹೇವೆ Audio [Nāvu ondu saṇṇa maneyalli vāsisut'hēve]
I like our breakfast
[pronoun + noun] ನನಗೆ ನಾಷ್ಟ ತುಂಬ ಇಷ್ಟ Audio [Nanage nāṣṭa tumba iṣṭa]

Now we finally reach the fun part, the practice of the daily conversations. These phrases are used to get to know new people, and break the ice.
