Urdu Verbs

Welcome to the 10th lesson about verbs in Urdu. We will first learn about the present tense, followed by the past tense, and future tense. We will also analyze some grammar rules, and finally practice how to ask for direction in Urdu.

Verbs are used to express an action (I swim) or a state of being (I am). The present tense in Urdu conveys a situation or event in the present time. Here are some examples:

Present Tense - Urdu
I speak English میں انگریزی بولتا ہوں Audio
you speak French آپ فرانسیسی بولتے ہیں Audio
he speaks German وہ جرمن بولتا ہے Audio
she speaks Italian وہ اطالوی بولتی ہے Audio
we speak Arabic ہم عربی بولتے ہیں Audio
they speak Chinese وہ چینی بولتے ہیں Audio

The past tense in Urdu conveys a situation or event in the past time. Here are some examples:

Past Tense - Urdu
I visited France میں نے فرانس کا دورہ کیا Audio
you visited Italy آپ نے اٹلی کا دورہ کیا Audio
he visited Morocco اس نے مراکش کا دورہ کیا Audio
she visited China اس نے چین کا دورہ کیا Audio
we visited Mexico ہم نے میکسیکو کا دورہ کیا Audio
they visited Kenya انہوں نے کینیا کا دورہ کیا Audio

The future tense in Urdu conveys a situation or event which is anticipated to happen in the future. Here are some examples:

Future Tense - Urdu
I will drink milk میں دودھ پیونگا Audio
you will drink coffee آپ کافی پینگے Audio
he will drink tea وہ چائے پیے گا Audio
she will drink water وہ پانی پیے گی Audio
we will drink apple juice ہم سیب کا رس پینگے Audio
they will drink tea وہ چائے پینگے Audio

Where is the airport? ہوائی اڈہ کہاں ہے؟ Audio
Go straight سیدھے جائیں Audio
