Persian Gender

Welcome to the fifth Persian lesson about gender. This time we will view a list of people, feminine and masculine, followed by grammar rules, finally a list of expressions in Persian to help you practice your daily phrases.

woman زن

husband شوهر

wife همسر

boy پسر

girl دختر

father پدر

mother مادر

Gender Grammar Rules

In general, gender is used to distinguish between male and female, sometimes referred to as masculine and feminine. For example: my son and daughter are students the noun [son] is masculine, while [daughter] is feminine. The following examples use gender in different ways and places to demonstrate their behavior.

Grammar + Rules - Persian
my son is a student [masculine + noun] پسر من دانش آموز است
her daughter is a student [feminine + noun] دختر او دانش آموز است
he has a tall brother [adjective + masculine] او یک برادر قد بلند دارد
she has a tall sister [adjective + feminine] او یک خواهر قد بلند دارد
his brothers are young [plural masculine + adjective] برادران او جوان هستند
his sisters are young [plural feminine + adjective] خواهران او جوان هستند

The list below will probably provide more clarification. These are family members (males and females). I think it would be wise to memorize them as part of your important vocabulary list.

I don't understand متوجه نمی شوم
I don't know من نمی دانم
What is that called in Persian? در زبان فارسی به آن چه می گویند؟
What is this? این چیست؟
What does that word mean in English? معنای آن کلمه به زبان انگلیسی چیست؟
