Welcome to the second Hausa lesson about adjectives. This time we will first learn about colors, followed by grammar rules, then weather expressions, finally a conversation in Hausa to help you practice your daily phrases.

Adjectives Grammar Rules

In general adjectives are words which describe or modify another person or object in a given sentence. For example: a beautiful flower the adjective is [beautiful] because it describes the noun [flower]. The following examples use adjectives in different ways and places to demonstrate how they behave in a sentence.

Grammar Rules - Hausa
my house is white
[noun + adjective] gidana fari ne
your country is big
[noun + adjective] kasarka babba ce
new books are expensive
[plural + adjective] sabbabin littafai suna da tsada
we are happy here
[pronoun + verb + adjective] muna farin ciki a nan
she has three small dogs
[adjective + plural] tana da karnuka uku
this language is very easy
[adverb + adjective] wannan harshen yana da sauki ainun
I have a small green house
[adjective + adjective] ina da tsanwan gida karami

Conversation in Hausa

Now we finally reach the most exciting part, the practice of the daily expressions used in almost every conversation. I recommend memorizing these phrases, because you will need them for sure.

English - Hausa
hi barka!
how are you? ka/ki/kuna lafiya?
I'm good, thank you ina lafiya kalau, na gode
and you? kai fa?/ke fa?/ku fa?
what is your name? yaya sunanka/ki/ku?
my name is Maya sunnana maya
nice to meet you naji dadin haduwarmu!
