Macedonian Verbs

Welcome to the 10th lesson about verbs in Macedonian. We will first learn about the present tense, followed by the past tense, and future tense. We will also analyze some grammar rules, and finally practice how to ask for direction in Macedonian.

Verbs are used to express an action (I swim) or a state of being (I am). The present tense in Macedonian conveys a situation or event in the present time. Here are some examples:

Present Tense - Macedonian - Pronunciation
I speak English јас зборувам англиски (јазик) [јas zboroovam anguliski (јazik)]
you speak French вие зборувате француски [viye zboroovatye frantzooski]
he speaks German тој зборува германски [toј zboroova guyermanski]
she speaks Italian таа зборува италијански [taa zboroova italiјanski]
we speak Arabic ние зборуваме арапски [niye zboroovamye arapski]
they speak Chinese тие зборуваат кинески [tiye zboroovaat kinyeski]

The past tense in Macedonian conveys a situation or event in the past time. Here are some examples:

you visited Italy вие сте ја посетиле италија [viye stye јa posyetilye italiјa]
he visited Morocco тој го посети мароко [toј guo posyeti maroko]

we visited Mexico го посетивме мексико [guo posyetivmye myeksiko]
they visited Kenya тие ја посетија кенија [tiye јa posyetiјa kyeniјa]

The future tense in Macedonian conveys a situation or event which is anticipated to happen in the future. Here are some examples:

I will drink milk јас ќе пијам млеко [јas kjye piјam mlyeko]
you will drink coffee вие ќе пиете млеко [viye kjye piyetye mlyeko]
he will drink tea toj ќе пие чај [toj kjye piye chaј]
she will drink water таа ќе пие вода [taa kjye piye voda]
we will drink apple juice ние ќе пиеме сок од јаболко [niye kjye piyemye sok od јabolko]
they will drink tea тие ќе пијат чај [tiye kjye piјat chaј]
